Local Volunteer Fire Department Sees Success with Marketing Agency's Custom Recruitment Initiative

Roanoke, VA - September 2016

B2C Enterprises successfully built and executed a recruitment initiative for the Cave Spring Volunteer Fire Department (CSVFD). The three-month push, which included a media blitz, public events, and video production, resulted in fifteen new volunteers joining the department.

"We've tried other things, but to marginal success," said CSVFD Chief John Chambliss. "So this time, we decided to spend a little money...like what businesses would do."

For several years, the CSVFD struggled to meet bare-minimum volunteer numbers to function as a sanctioned fire station. With training sessions scheduled to begin in late September, the department enlisted B2C Enterprises to create a strategic marketing and communications plan.

Working within the CSVFD budget, the team at B2C Enterprises implemented a plan with a set call-to-action encouraging the recruits to apply by August 1. The tactic created a sense of urgency and the deadline ensured new recruits would be ready in time for training this fall.

B2C Enterprises got the community's attention by using media relations, advertising, social media, and public events supported by print elements and signage. As a result, both the media and potential volunteers had direct access to the CSVFD fire fighters. B2C Enterprises also wrote, directed, and produced a thirty second video for use digitally on television and in social media. It was titled "Cave Spring Fire Department: The Call". It can be viewed here.

"The agency has two family members who are firefighters," said Bruce C. Bryan, Founder and President of B2C Enterprises, "so the meaning behind this campaign really hit home for us. I'm really proud of the way we executed the project and we love knowing it will have a positive impact on the Cave Spring community."

The CSVFD's newest volunteers are now going through credentialing processes and are expected to enter training later this month. Those who successfully complete all of the required courses will be will be volunteering in Cave Spring by early next year.
